Bishop DeDe Duncan-Probe was with us on Sunday February 9th and gave a powerful sermon. In it she reminded us that Jesus was political for his day—a day when there were only two kinds of people: the rich and powerful religious leaders, and the rest of the population. Jesus proclaimed that God wanted all of God’s children treated with mercy and compassion. This made the religious leaders uncomfortable and they eventually had him executed for it.
The bishop said that Jesus calls all of us, all of us to repentance and that can be defined as changing our minds, or at least hearing each other out. This isn’t the case today as we are so polarized. So it remains our role as followers of Christ to proclaim the Good News that Jesus wants us to care for others and that includes the marginalized.
