This ministry started in the late 1980’s and has flourished ever since. The need for feeding people in the community was recognized by Trinity parishioners and continues to this day. It not only provides a small bit of sustenance, but the opportunity for fellowship.
This free community meal is served on the last Sunday of the month, January through October. The meals are home-cooked in our county health department-approved kitchen, and are full course, with meat, vegetable, and dessert. Favorites have developed through the year – chicken and biscuits is one of the most requested.
Although guided by many through the years, the Neighbors’ Dinner Out are overseen by Irene Ferrante, who cooks up a storm and serves the dinners with the help of several volunteers including Cheryl D’Eredita, Judy & Ted Flock, Sean Painter, Ted & Sylvia Papperman, Holly Genco, Torri Yager, and bakers Carol Burger, Debby Perrotto, and Marilyn Cator to name a recent few. The good folks of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Seneca Falls United Methodist Church, and Seneca Falls and Waterloo Rotary chapters take turns throughout the year staging the dinners as well.
During the Pandemic, the meal went completely to take-out. Now it a hybrid of take-out and dine-in. Traditionally, we have served 50-65 meals in our dining room, but have distributed as many as 120 as take-out. Publicity is minimal; usually word-or-mouth among those most needy.
